They took your voice

Standard

They took your voice.
Just like that.
Struck you down, struck you dumb
and took it
like it was nothing.

And it was nothing,
to them.
They had no use for it.
But still they took it
and you suffered, after that
in silence.

I remember the day they took your voice
and I remember the day you took it back.
That day you rose up, spoke up
tore your stolen words out of their thieving throats
and made them yours again.

After that you talked again,
really talked
and acted like it was nothing.
But they took your voice
And I can never forgive them for that.
